All Blacks v Argentina: Pre-Show

All the action as the All Blacks face Argentina in the Tri Nations.

After experimenting with several new combinations this past week, changes that the All Blacks’ coaches admit may have contributed to their loss to the Wallabies, Ian Foster has opted for plan A against the Pumas.

It provides a glimpse of the first-choice team of the All Blacks selectors, with Foster basically opting for his best possible team against the Argentines, who will play their first test since last year’s Rugby World Cup.

“Several players have had a week off and are fresh,” Foster said. “The whole team is quite determined to put in a performance that shows that we have grown in recent weeks, so going to those existing combinations is quite important.”

Foster said the players will be determined to bounce back from the loss.

“It’s a grim feeling when you lose in the black jersey. We’re frustrated about that. There were several guys that came out for their first hit for a while, and there was a bit of rust in the combinations.

“It was a formula that we had to do because we have some players that we have to give them a chance. But it was a clear reminder that you have to be ready. There have been a lot of good conversations about this week, and there are some disappointed players. .

“What it teaches you is that when you get the chance, this All Blacks jersey demands performance and when we don’t perform at the level we expect, we have to go and work twice as hard outside the park.”

In the meantime, the Pumas won’t be short of any motivation either, with players eager to put in a good showing for fans at home, where Covid-19 has hit hard.

“The key this week is to give up everything for this jersey,” said Pumas number 8 Rodrigo Bruni.

“What stands out the most about this group is that they never give up.

“A few months ago we were training and we didn’t know if we were going to play.”
