The couple appeared today in Masterton District Court and have been placed in pretrial detention to reappear on March 11.

Police said investigations indicate those involved in both incidents had been drinking at a nearby licensed venue.

“At this time the police believe that a group was heading home when it was attacked by another group,” said Sergeant Major Barry Bysouth.

“Although alcohol is believed to be a factor, the reason for these attacks is not clear at this time.”

Anyone who has witnessed these incidents should contact the Police at 105, citing file number 210308/7948.

Police would also like to hear from anyone with CCTV footage in the area or a camera in their vehicle that may have captured the robberies.
