Three people have been arrested and a freeway exit ramp is closed on State Highway 1 in Johnsonville, Wellington.
Local resident Graeme Farr said he heard “a lot of sirens” and went to investigate when he saw his neighbor looking out the window.

He said he ran to a nearby freeway bridge and saw a man in police custody by the Helston Rd freeway bridge.

A police dog was also on the scene.
NZTA tweeted around 3:30 p.m. Monday saying that a police incident had closed the exit ramp.
The agency also warned motorists to allow more time for their trips in the area.
Police confirmed that three arrests were made in the area and that the closure of the exit ramp allowed a vehicle involved in an incident to be recovered.
“We ask motorists to avoid the area and we thank people for their patience in advance,” a police statement said.
