Thorndon’s property for sale for nearly $ 8 million is the most expensive home ever listed in Wellington

[ad_1]

A beautiful 742-square-meter renovated home in Thorndon is likely to set a new record for Wellington – it’s the most expensive freestanding home ever to hit the market in the city.

The property, on Hobson Street, has five titles on 2365 square feet and comes with a sixth title: a 454-square-foot adjoining site with commercial zoning.

Sales agent Phil Mears of Tommy’s Real Estate describes it as a “huge flat lot” with an “exceptional” residence that ticks all the boxes for modern living, but retains its remarkable architectural features and unique character.

The asking price for this stunning five-bedroom home with a lawn tennis court on Hobson Street, Thorndon is $ 7,950,000. The most expensive home sold in Wellington to date sold for $ 5,750,000 earlier this year.

And that was the goal of the suppliers, who took care of the renovation. They say they wanted their home to be “timeless and retain its character and uniqueness … but also create quirky, fun and functional spaces.”

Special features of the five-bedroom, five-bath home include a large traditional-style conservatory that overlooks a grass tennis court. The family living areas also open to the tennis court and a large outdoor living room.

In keeping with the grandeur, there is a grand formal entrance and a great room and formal dining room. The lighting comes from antique stores or has been custom made for the home. Even the wallpaper on the dresser is old, from the 1950s. It was obtained in New York.

The bright vintage-style kitchen features traditional panel cabinets, with industrial steel cabinets next to the oven and a large island with recycled beams.

Other rooms include a large butler’s pantry and a game room with a pool table.

Rooms on the upper level include the master suite and guest suite, both with marble-lined bathrooms. There is also a separate children’s wing.

Mears says on the listing that the adjoining lot at 165 Thorndon Quay could be seamlessly integrated into the Hobson Street property (there are double entrances), providing space for a “magnificent ‘man cave’ (cinema, game room or gym) in addition to rented garage and commercial premises for two tenants ”.

CoreLogic confirmed that $ 7,950,000 is the highest asking price for a home in Wellington. The previous record is a sale earlier this year, also by Phil Mears, of a home on Clive Road that sold for $ 5,750,000.

Mears says he knows of several other properties in Wellington that would be more expensive, but have not been listed.
