Today there are two new cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand, the Ministry of Health has confirmed.

One of today’s new cases is in a managed isolation facility, while the other is a historical case identified through contact tracing.

Today there were no new cases in the community.

The imported case was a man in his 30s who returned from Russia via the United Arab Emirates on September 21. He tested positive on the third day.

The landmark case was tested after it was linked to a charter flight from Christchurch to Auckland where three family members have since tested positive, however the new case had previously tested negative on the 12th and 3rd day tests. in controlled isolation.

All the remaining passengers on the flight have now been screened, except for one young child. One test is pending, but otherwise all the remaining tests have been negative.

The Health Ministry said there were only two people in the hospital as of today, with one in Auckland City and North Shore Hospitals. None were in intensive care.

Today, one person also recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of active cases to 62, of which 30 are in managed isolation and 31 are from outside the community.

Since August 11, only seven close contacts who have been identified by the Ministry of Health continue to be contacted.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in New Zealand is 1,475.
