US Vice President Mike Pence will get the Covid-19 vaccine publicly to inspire confidence in its safety, says the White House.

Pence and his wife, Karen, would be vaccinated at a public event, the White House said Wednesday, and U.S. President-elect Joe Biden is expected to receive the vaccine next week, a Biden transition official said.

Axios journalist Jonathan Swan reported that Pence’s shooting will be televised, citing an administration official with direct knowledge of the plans. Details are still being worked out, but Pence wants television networks to broadcast the moment live in the morning, the source said.

The White House did not confirm the report.

Biden said that Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert, advised him to get vaccinated “sooner rather than later.”

Biden has said he wants to keep frontline healthcare workers and vulnerable people as the top priority as the vaccine rolls out across the United States.

The president-elect also pointed out the importance of getting vaccinated publicly to build confidence among Americans to get vaccinated.

“I don’t want to get ahead of the line, but I want to make sure that we show the American people that it is safe to take.”
