The Warehouse Group is ditching the tradition this year and starting its “Boxing Day” online sale on Christmas Eve.
Sales at Noel Leeming will begin at 7.30pm and The Warehouse at 8pm on Thursday.
In a press release sent to the media, he says, “Don’t miss out on The Warehouse Boxing Day sale.
“One of New Zealand’s biggest sales events, both online and in store. Get a bargain from our incredible range of stock, at our low prices on December 26.”
He also had a list of Boxing Day online sales tips that included signing up to get ready to shop online and have items in your cart, as well as bookmarking the deals page.
Consumer NZ CEO John Duffy said he hadn’t heard of a Boxing Day sale starting this early.
“Merchants must be careful not to be misleading in the way they describe sales to avoid a violation of the fair trade law.”
Duffy said there are several things people can do to protect themselves while shopping for products online.
“Know who you are buying from, find a ‘.co.nz’ website if you want to buy locally. It is also worth asking if the product is in stock and the expected delivery time before buying.
“Always pay with a credit and debit card, because if the products do not appear as ordered, you can take them to your bank.”
Spending through Paymark on Boxing Day last year totaled $ 149 million.
Product and price comparison site PriceSpy said that 13 percent of the products listed on the site on Boxing Day 2018 were found to have increased in price and that the average discount offered was only 4 percent.
A PriceSpy survey also found:
• Three out of five kiwis (63 percent) say they have waited to buy a Christmas gift at the San Esteban sales, so it is cheaper.
• Nearly half of New Zealanders (45 percent) said they have felt pressure to buy things during flash sales like Black Friday and Boxing Day.
A survey commissioned by PriceSpy last year found that Boxing Day remains the most popular sale shopping event in the country, with nearly half of those surveyed (46 percent) saying they had bought something on sale day in 2018. .
PriceSpy Boxing Day Selling Tips
Compare prices before you buy
Don’t trust that all the promotional offers you find in stores are good. Do a price comparison on PriceSpy, either in the browser or in the mobile app, and you will immediately see if it is a good deal or not.
Check price history
Our price history reveals how often stores go up and down in prices. It helps you see if a store is increasing its prices before a promotional period and whether to attack that limited-time offer or wait for the next price reduction.
Create alerts about a price
With price alerts, you don’t have to manually check for price reductions. Create an alert about a product in PriceSpy and we will notify you when stores lower their prices or when a product is available again. You can receive the message by email and in the mobile application.
