Dyllan Rowe faces 26 charges related to alleged crimes over about a month.

A man who allegedly broke into a family home and spent the night on the roof had previously broken into four other homes and assaulted a woman, police say.

Dyllan Rowe, 28, faces 26 counts, including 19 counts of robbery, related to an alleged crime spree in Porirua and Wellington from January 6 to February 11.

During the night of January 29-30, a man broke into a family home on Kenya Street in the suburb of Ngaio and camped overnight in the attic, before falling through the roof and escaping by jumping 3 meters from a window.

Police were notified of an intruder on the property early the next morning and a spokeswoman said initial investigations suggested the intruder had hidden in an attic overnight and left the property around 5.50am.

“After jumping out of a window to escape, the man fled on foot through neighboring property sections,” he said.

Police charged Rowe with breaking into the house on Kenya St and another on the same street, as well as three other houses on a nearby street, Trelissick Cres, on January 29.

He has also been charged with assaulting a woman while fleeing property the same day.

A few days later, police allege that Rowe broke into two houses in Upper Hutt, two businesses in Pāuatahanui and one in Kāpiti. He was also charged with being in possession of methamphetamine and damaging a window.

Prior to this, police allege that Rowe broke into eight properties and businesses between January 6 and 11 in the suburbs of Kenepuru, Churton Park, Tawa, Grenada North and Pukerua Bay, damaged three vehicles, failed to appear in court and not stopped by police.

Appearing in Porirua District Court on Tuesday morning, Rowe did not plead guilty and was held in custody until March 23.

Rowe’s attorney said he sustained injuries during his arrest, prompting him to undergo surgery.

Police declined to comment on the injuries and the arrest as the matter was before the courts.
