Two founding members of an Australian motorcycle gang will be deported to New Zealand after their gang was declared a criminal organization.
In a statement, the Australian Federal Police said the two brothers, ages 64 and 65, were detained by police after a search warrant was executed on an Adelaide property on Tuesday.
The two New Zealanders are being deported for “reasons of character” after the Australian Department of Home Affairs canceled their visas. They have not been charged with any specific crime, although they both have criminal records, police said.
“His removal will leave the motorcycle gang outlaw without leadership and with a reduced ability to commit criminal activities, including drug distribution, in South Australia. This factor alone certainly improves community safety, ”police said in a statement.
The men, who are not named, are founding members of the Descendants Outlaw Motorcycle Gang, based in Adelaide, South Australia.

In June, members of the Descendants Outlaw motorcycle gang were reported to break into a car park in Adelaide, armed with hammers and knives, allegedly assaulting a man over a financial dispute related to the recent sale of a car.
Since 2014, Australia has deported more than 300 people, many of them to New Zealand, for being associated with a criminal organization.
In October, two high-ranking members of the Hells Angels were deported to New Zealand after a similar crackdown on motorcycle gangs.
Acting Federal Police Detective Superintendent Gavin Stone said the men posed a “significant risk” to the Australian public.
“Outlaw motorcycle gangs exist for one reason only: to make as much money as possible, in any way possible,” he said.
“They are sophisticated and violent organized criminal networks that have no respect for the law and consider themselves above it, and the Descendants are no different.”
