Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (second right) crosses his arms over his chest in tribute to the late actor Chadwick Boseman after scoring the winning penalty against Liverpool on the Community Shield at Wembley.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang secured the Community Shield for Arsenal with his penalty, securing a 5-4 win over Liverpool on Saturday in the curtain-opening of a season that starts late with no fans due to the pandemic.
The match was resolved by penalties at Wembley Stadium after Takumi Minamino’s first goal for Liverpool in the 73rd minute canceled Aubameyang’s first goal.
The Arsenal captain held on to Bukayo Saka’s diagonal pass before snuggling into the net and paying tribute in the goal celebration to actor Chadwick Boseman, who died the day before of cancer at the age of 43.
He performed the “Wakanda Forever” salute which has become a symbol to celebrate black excellence since he was portrayed by the character of Boseman in the 2018 film, “Black Panther.”
