The teenager spent less than an hour with 10 other people at the famous Grouse in Lincoln before he was found unconscious in the trunk of a car.
A Canterbury teenager died three days after he was found “unconscious” in the trunk of an overloaded car.
The 19-year-old man was found unconscious in a vehicle in Rolleston, near Christchurch, around 1:20 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Wednesday that the teenager had died. His death was being investigated on behalf of the coroner.

The group drove from the hotel, which has two courtesy vans, and parked on a street in Rolleston, about 12 miles away. It is not known whether they drove directly there or stopped en route.
The teenager is known to have been in the trunk of the car with four other people when he became ill.
Detective Sergeant Craig Johnson said Tuesday there was no evidence to suggest the 19-year-old was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
“In the first days of the investigation, we will do tests to determine how they found him in that condition.
“It is a tragic incident, and the police are looking for answers for the family.”
Stuff understands that the police are investigating whether the teenager was crushed or suffocated.
A police spokeswoman previously said that others at the scene provided medical care to the teenager and that he was taken by ambulance to Christchurch Hospital.
The teenager is understood to have previously attended Lincoln High School. The school’s principal, Kathy Paterson, said it was a “very sad and tragic situation.”
“Our thoughts are with the young man’s family at this time.”
A resident of the street where the unconscious teenager was found said a neighbor gave him CPR.
A woman, whose son was in the vehicle, declined to comment.
The Toyota Hilux Surf was moved off the road to private property on Sunday while StuffIt was there.
The Famous Grouse Hotel general manager declined to comment.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
