A teenager died in the early hours of Sunday morning after a fatal accident in Kilbirnie.
Police say charges are unlikely to be brought after the Wellington vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy.
The car crashed on Cobham Drive outside St Patrick’s College, near the Evans Bay Pde intersection in Kilbirnie at 5.47am Sunday. No other vehicle was involved.
Things understands that the car involved had previously been stolen from an address in Miramar.
A police spokeswoman said investigations into the accident were ongoing but did not anticipate any charges being filed.

“The name of the deceased, a 16-year-old boy, will be released as soon as all the necessary family notifications have been made,” he said.
A second person in the vehicle, also understood to be a young man, suffered no significant injuries.
The owner of the vehicle told Stuff that it was stolen outside his home in Miramar.
He said he was woken up Sunday morning by a roommate who called him to check on his safety. The roommate was driving to work when he saw what appeared to be the owner’s car wrapped around a tree on Cobham Dr.
The man said he had gone to the crash site and confirmed to police that the 2002 Mazda Atenza was his.
Three days before the accident, Wellington police posted on social media warning of an increase in motor vehicle crime in Miramar.
In the past three weeks, at least seven vehicles were stolen or robbed in the area, mostly small Japanese hatchbacks, a police spokeswoman said.
Police patrols in the area have increased, and police encouraged members of the public to remove any valuables from their vehicles and ensure they are locked.
It was the second death of the weekend in the Wellington region, with another death on Saturday following a two-car accident in Upper Hutt.
Two other people were in serious condition and were taken by ambulance to Wellington Hospital.
