A man was arrested by police in Picton and found with a .44 Magnum revolver, drugs and cash in his car.
A resident of the Tasmanian district was caught with methamphetamine, a large amount of cash and a gun in his caravan after getting off the ferry in Picton.
The 61-year-old appeared in Nelson District Court Tuesday facing seven charges, including the commission of a firearm offense, allowing the premises to be used for a crime, drug trafficking offenses and possession of a revolver. Magnum .44. He was placed in preventive detention, was granted provisional name suppression, and will reappear in January.
The man and his partner were detained by Tasmanian police, including the Armed Criminal Squad, while getting off a ferry in Picton last Friday morning.
A search of his motorhome found a Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum revolver, methamphetamine, cannabis, and a large sum of cash.

The Nelson Bays CIB-led operation was part of a commitment to target methamphetamine dealers.
“We want to disrupt the supply chain from reaching vulnerable members of our community and remove assets obtained through criminal activity,” said Nelson Bays Senior Detective Sgt. Craig Johnston.
“The police are committed to targeting drug offenders who prey on the vulnerable in our community and benefit from them because the police and the public do not tolerate these offenders in our society.
“We also want our community to help us by alerting us to any suspicious activity involving the distribution of drugs.”
Police were unable to comment further because the case was in court.
