Police arrested a man after they found him with paint on his hands and shoes that matched the graffiti.
An alleged tagger left his mark and also helped police identify his man.
A concerned resident called police after a vehicle was seen stopping in front of a property on Watts Rd, Northeast Valley, Dunedin, around 2.15am Tuesday.
The informant heard the use of spray cans and called police, Acting Sergeant Major Anthony Bond said.
Police stopped a vehicle and its 28-year-old driver shortly after.

In addition to the cans of spray paint found in his car, which matched the color of the graffiti on the building, the paint was also on his shoes and hands.
It occurs when other places around Dunedin, including Port Chalmers, report graffiti attacks on buildings at night, and police investigations continue.
Bond said the man would appear in Dunedin District Court on Thursday.
