The man who was arrested after ramming a police car on State Highway 2 this morning was wanted in connection with an aggravated robbery.
The police car was hit near the Wairoa Bridge after police spotted and stopped a vehicle of interest around 8:50 am, a police spokesman says.
“The person was immediately detained without injury.
“As a result, both vehicles suffered minor damage.”
The 34-year-old was arrested in connection with an aggravated robbery at the Railway Hotel in Richmond earlier this month.
Police were called around 2:40 p.m. on October 12 after a man allegedly entered the premises armed with a firearm, a police statement said.
Cash was taken from the premises and the alleged offender fled on foot.
Nelson CIB this week identified a man of interest, and he was located in Tauranga today and arrested.
He has been charged with aggravated robbery and is due to appear in the Tauranga District Court tomorrow.
Nelson Bays Area Commanding Inspector Paul Borrell says he is pleased that an arrest has been made.
“Our investigation team has worked tirelessly for the past fifteen days to conduct an identification and gather information.
“A search warrant was also executed, during which items of interest were recovered, including a vehicle, clothing and a firearm.
“We hope this arrest brings some reassurance to the community, which may have been alarmed by this incident.”
