UPDATE: A strong smell of gas in a Cameron Road store has prompted the evacuation of a building in Tauranga this afternoon.
North Fire & Emergency Communications Shift Manager Mau Barbara says there is a hazardous materials unit. A reporter at the scene says there are also four appliances present.
The evacuation has been carried out in a building between avenues 10 and 11.
“The evacuation of the building is complete. Now we keep people away and make things safe for the public, “says Mau.
Mau was unable to determine the cause of the incident.
The reporter at the scene says that Fuji Xerox and Jaycar staff have evacuated the building.
