UPDATE 7.42AM: Emergency services are attending a serious accident in Poike, Tauranga.
Police received a report of the two-vehicle accident on SH 29A around 6:40 a.m.
Three people are reported to have suffered moderate to severe injuries, a police spokesman says.
“The Serious Accident Unit is present.
“There are detours at Poike Road and Welcome Bay Road and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.”
Police are also present following a report of an accident on SH 35 near Omaio.
“There are no reports of serious injuries and the road is now clear.”
EARLIER:
State Highway 29a, between Welcome Bay and Poike roundabouts, is blocked after a serious accident.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says the road is completely blocked.
“It’s near the Poike roundabout. One car is off the road and another is blocked in a lane.
“People should expect delays.”
Another SunLive reader says there are three cars involved and traffic is completely stopped.
“The police and the ambulance are present and another ambulance has just arrived.”

Diversions are being implemented and people are advised to follow the instructions of the emergency services.
The detours are as follows: Northbound traffic, turn right on Poike Rd, left on Ohauiti Rd, continue on SH29a. Heading south in reverse.
