UPDATE 3.16PM: The cords have been removed following an incident of a fleeing driver in Kawerau.
The incident began in the Freyberg Street area around 11:20 a.m., a police spokesman says.
“The vehicle involved was located on Newell Street around 11:45 am, however police are still searching for the driver.
“Anyone who sees something suspicious in the area is urged to contact the police at 105.”

People are being asked to avoid the central business district of a Bay of Plenty city today after a police chase.
Police are searching for a person of interest following an incident with a fleeing driver in Kawerau.
“A vehicle did not stop for police in the Freyberg Street area around 11:20 am and a chase began,” says a police spokesman.
“Police lost sight of the vehicle, however it was later found abandoned on Newell Street.
“There are cordons in the central business district and people are asked to avoid the area.
“Nearby schools have been notified as a precautionary measure.”
Anyone who sees something suspicious should contact the police.
