It may not feel like rain today when you stick your head out the window, but WeatherWatch.co.nz is forecasting a chance of hail, thunder and possible heavy rain.
Weather analyst Aaron Wilkinson says people can expect showers today on the east coast of the North Island with cold winds from the south to the southwest.
He says it will be drier at the top of the North Island, but people can expect some rain north of Auckland this morning.
“By mid-afternoon there is the possibility of isolated heavy rains with the possibility of hail / thunder in Waikato, Western Bay Of Plenty and Western Auckland. Taranaki rains are expected to the south in the west, clearing at night.
“Any early shower clears Otago, so it’s going to be mostly dry. Showers over Canterbury and Marlborough are light, clearing this afternoon, one or two may stay overnight. Dry for the rest of the South Island.”
Dry for the South Island on Saturday, however some rain over Fiordland. The North Island is also largely dry, however Hawke’s Bay has clear morning showers, clear Gisborne showers at night.
