UPDATE 7.32PM: The cause of a fire in a building in Tauranga is being investigated.

Firefighters were called to the two-story building fire on Cameron Road, near 4th Ave, just before 6 p.m.

New Zealand Fire & Emergencies Northern Fire Communications shift manager Paul Radden says the fire is already out and crews are working to buffer hot spots.

“The fire is out and we only have one truck on the scene.

“It is under investigation.”

Residents in the area say a section of Cameron Road was closed for a time while fire crews battled the fire.

Now they report that the road is open.

UPDATED 6.40PM: There’s a fire in a two-story store on Cameron Road.

The building near 4th Avenue is heavily involved in fires, says Paul Radden, northern shift manager for Fire and Emergency New Zealand.

“We currently have four trucks present. The fire has been extinguished on the first floor, they are only putting out the second floor now. “

Paul says he is not aware of people inside the building at the time of the fire.

FENZ was called to the fire around 5.45pm and the cause is still unknown.

EARLIER: Reports are coming in of a fire at a business premises on Cameron Road.

A police spokesman says they were called in to help with traffic management in a building fire on Cameron Road.

Police were called to help at 5.50pm and the building is on Cameron Road between 4th and 5th Avenue.
