Police are looking for the driver of a Ute who collided with a speed camera vehicle and a police car near the Karingaroa Forest this morning.
“At approximately 10.25 am today, a person driving a silver Ford Ranger ute on Daniel Street in the Kaingaroa Forest deliberately rammed a police vehicle with a stationary mobile safe speed camera,” says a spokesman for the policeman.
The operator of the speed camera vehicle was not injured and requested assistance immediately.
The ute traveled to Murupara where a police patrol tried to stop the vehicle.
“The ute stopped and then deliberately tried to ram the patrol vehicle before disembarking.
“A chase started but was abandoned less than a minute later due to driving.
“Then the ute tried to ram the same patrol vehicle again while it was driving away,” says a police spokesman.
The Eagle helicopter was deployed from Auckland to assist and locate the empty vehicle on a property in the Kaingaroa forest just before 12:30 p.m.
Police continue to investigate to identify and locate the person involved.
The police would like anyone who has witnessed a silver Ford Ranger Ute in the vicinity of the Kaingaroa forest today to contact the police on 105 and cite event number P043468128.
