The Dunedin Oval was wrecked by a donut-making car.
Security footage helped catch a man who vandalized a sports field with alcohol stolen from his back.
The great damage came hours before hundreds of children played sports at Dunedin’s Oval.
Police were called to the scene early Saturday morning after a suspicious car with its doors wide open was reported to be parked near Kensington Tavern, next to the Oval.
Acting Sergeant Major Anthony Bond said the vehicle was stolen and used to tear up lawns. He was found with a cricket net wrapped around his chassis.

Police found barrels and bottles of alcohol in the back seat, which management claimed had been stolen from the bar. The security footage helped identify that offender, a 21-year-old, who was charged with theft, Bond said.

Bond said the investigation into who was driving the vehicle was ongoing. The vehicle was impounded for 28 days for sustained loss of traction.
Party in much
Later Saturday night, police were called to a vacant lot in Mornington, where they found 60 youths, mostly from Logan Park and Bayfield high schools, holding a party hosted via Facebook.
That party was soon abandoned after revelers spotted the police dog.
A woman cut her leg while trying to jump over a fence and was taken to hospital.
Bond said most of the youth returned and their data was taken.
