A stolen car was used to drive through the front of a store in Whakatāne.
Police were called around 4 a.m. Tuesday to report a raid on a store in The Strand, a police spokesman said.
A stolen silver saloon, taken from Edgecumbe, was used in the incident.

“Not exactly what we had on our Christmas list this year,” they wrote.
“Unfortunately, last night we were mugged with a ram.”
Four people are believed to have been involved and an examination of the scene, including CCTV verification, is underway.
The property owner is taking stock to establish what was taken, the police spokesman said, but police would like to hear from anyone who is offered any surf, skating or beach gear.
They would also like to hear from locals who may have seen or heard suspicious activity on The Strand during the night.
