The prime minister was joined by famous friends such as Taika Waititi, Sam Neill and Rhys Darby in her special Christmas message for MIQ workers.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern called on some famous faces to help her thank New Zealand’s isolation and managed quarantine staff in a special Christmas message.
Ardern said the video, posted to Instagram on Monday, was “a message of thanks” to “everyone who is working in our managed quarantine and isolation facilities in Aotearoa, New Zealand.”
Several celebrities who have been through controlled isolation this year, including Taika Waititi, Rhys Darby, Sam Neill and Urzila Carlson, recorded their own messages as part of the video.

Oscar-winning Waititi currently filming in Australia Thor: love and thunder, gave “a big hello to all essential workers who are taking care of everyone … I just want you to know that we are all thinking of you as you thought of us.”
Actor Neill, currently starring in the film Rams, I wanted to “convey my sincere thanks to all those people … who have been keeping our country safe and taking care of us so well … I can’t thank you enough.”
Comedian Darby said: “I enjoyed my stay at the Christchurch Airport Hotel. The staff was professional, the health professionals were healthy and professional ”.
He was “proud to be a New Zealander.”
Ardern completed the video saying, “This is a thank you from all of us. You do an amazing job. “
The clip has already been viewed more than 80,000 times on Instagram and attracted many comments from those who have been or are currently in managed isolation.
“Our family is in quarantine at the moment and is managing well,” wrote one. “They are well cared for. Thank you. We are all very grateful. “
Other comments extended thanks to frontline workers, including police and medical personnel.
Ardern also called out a few familiar faces, including Jack Tame, Paddy Gower, Ross Taylor and Rebecca Gibney, to wish a Merry Christmas to those staying in isolation facilities run over the holiday period.
Everyone involved has spent time at the MIQ facility this year.
Several Kiwi celebrities have documented their stay in managed isolation when they returned to New Zealand during the Covid-19 pandemic, including Waititi, who posted a photo of the hotel room she shared with her two young daughters.
