At least seven people between the ages of 17 and 70 were wounded by gunfire on Wednesday near a transit station in the US city of Philadelphia.
Police said two people were shot in the back shortly before 3 p.m. near the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority station in the Olney neighborhood.
Three other people were hit in the arm, ankle and leg, respectively. No information was immediately available on the injuries of two other victims. Police reported that two firearms and one person were recovered in custody.
Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said one person was seriously injured. He said it is unclear whether the confiscated firearms were used in what he called a “very blatant” shooting.

“We were able to get someone into custody as quickly as we did because we had officers in the area working on another assignment,” he said. “I think it’s very revealing that people who are willing to participate in these shootings are feeling more and more emboldened regardless of whether they see us around.”
The shooting happened near the SEPTA station on Broad Street, the city’s main north-south thoroughfare, and next to the Einstein Medical Center, where all but one of the victims were taken. The seventh victim was taken to Temple University Hospital.
A SEPTA spokesperson said it happened on the street rather than on SEPTA property and that no transit system employee was injured. No immediate information was available on the two hospitals to which the victims were transferred.
