Finalists for this year’s prized award included TVNZ1’s Wendy Petrie and, originally, Chief Health Officer Dr. Ashley Bloomfield before she retired.

The finalists were narrowed down by the NZTV awards committee, before the public chose their favorite.

Barry accepted the award for Television Personality of the Year today at the glamorous ceremony at Shed 10 in Auckland.

Also nominated for an award was Seven Sharp co-host Jeremy Wells, for Best Entertainment Host.

In other awards, Hyundai’s long-running national calendar won Best Factual Series and Best Camera Work – Documentary / Factual.

The Luminaries, also a TVNZ1 production, swept multiple awards, winning Best Cinematography: Drama, Best Post-Production Design, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup Design, and Best Screenplay: Drama.

Director Claire McCarthy won the award for best drama director and Himesh Patel won the award for best actor.

Meanwhile, the second season of Taika Waititi’s Paranormal Wellington, which airs on TVNZ2, won the award for Best Comedy / Entertainment Comedy Show. Episode Four by Paul Yates won Best Screenplay: Comedy.
