Hilary Barry has shared her essential parenting tips with ZM host Megan Papas.
In a video posted to his Facebook page, Barry opens up about the reality of raising a baby.
“Hi Megan, I’m Hilary Barry, I’m very excited that you are having a baby, but I feel like I need to give you some advice as a mother of a baby boy,” she says.
Barry and her husband Mike have two children.
Using a soccer ball as an accessory, Barry demonstrates the difficult task of changing a diaper when you have a baby.
“So now you have the diaper on, it is very important that when you change a baby boy you have the second diaper ready to use,” says Barry.
“Because you know what? When you drop this diaper, you’re going to get really wet.”
Barry then demonstrates what you don’t want to happen and drenches himself in water.
It may be one of the many words of parental wisdom that Barry shares. The Seven Sharp host will replace The Hits host Laura McGoldrick on the station’s 3pm Pick Up show when she heads on maternity leave early next year.
Papas announced she was pregnant in August in a moving on-air speech, sharing that after struggling with fertility, she and her husband Andrew were expecting their first child.
In October, she revealed that she was having a boy, with the ZM host adding that she felt strange announcing the gender of her baby in 2020.
“It’s pretty weird in 2020 because Andrew and I have discussed this at home, we’ve discussed it at work, we all agree that it’s pretty weird to reveal your son’s genitalia, which is essentially what you’re doing.”
“Everyone asks ‘what are you going to eat?’ and ‘are you going to find out?’
“But if you haven’t realized it, the problem is assigning a person’s gender based entirely on their genitals because it doesn’t always match.
“We are two cisgender parents, we are open and supportive, and we will accept and love our son, whoever he chooses to be, whoever he chooses to love, and whatever he chooses to do in life.
“But yeah, I’ll be advertising our son’s genitalia,” Megan joked at the time of the announcement.
