One person was cut from the rubble after a car and truck crashed on a road leading to a holiday hotspot in North Auckland this morning.

Emergency services are currently at the crash site on Matakana Rd, north of Warkworth.

The road is currently closed between Sandspit Rd, Warkworth, and Sharp Rd.

Police said multiple vehicles were believed to be involved in the crash and one person was in critical condition.

A spokesperson said the highway is expected to be closed for some time.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said the accident involved a truck and a car.

One person was trapped in the car, and firefighters needed to free them, he said.

Auckland Transport said the accident occurred between Sharp and Anderson Rds.

The accident happened around 9 in the morning.

Motorists are advised to delay their trip if they planned to use the affected road or to take a longer detour around the Sandspit and Sharp Rds.

The New Zealand Transport Authority said it expects delays on State Highway 1 through Warkworth due to detour queues.
