Tasman has continued his perfect start to the Miter 10 Cup, with another bonus points victory.

The Mako crushed Northland 54-21 at Nelson, following their opening 41-24 win over Counties Manukau, with a blitz after halftime sealing the comfortable victory.

Leading 19-7 after 45 minutes, Tasman made three attempts in seven minutes, with Fetuli Paea, Will Jordan and Sevu Reece crossing the line to quickly extend the hosts’ lead to 40-7.

Northland crossed twice, but they were merely attempts at consolation as they failed to back up their solid win over Manawatu, while Reece scored a hat-trick in what will likely be his last game for his new province as he prepares to link up with the All Blacks for the Bledisloe Cup tryouts next month.

“[Competition] points are really important at this point in the season, so getting another bonus point is nice, “said Tasman’s co-coach Andrew Goodman, who was impressed with Reece’s contribution.

“It was electric, it popped up everywhere, which is what Sevu does best. If you give him the license to look for the ball and find the space, he’s pretty outstanding.”
