All Blacks playmaker Beauden Barrett will depart for Japan at the conclusion of the Rugby Championship, where he will remain prior to his 2021 campaign with Suntory Sungoliath.
The Blues Utility along with his wife Hannah and newborn daughter Billie will head north after the All Blacks’ final Tri Nations test against Argentina in Newcastle on Saturday.
The match is a must win for New Zealand if they have any hope of claiming the tournament cutlery.
As duties in the field dwindle, Barrett’s chores with his daughter, whom he left with Hannah to care for for nearly a month, will multiply tenfold.
When asked if he was enjoying his last nights of uninterrupted sleep, Barrett quickly replied with a stern “yes.”
“We are going to Japan together next week, so I can’t wait for that. I think we have two weeks of isolation there, so we have a lot of time to take control and give Han a break. I’m really looking forward to that.” added.
Barrett’s time arriving in Japan will precede his relationship with Suntory Sungoliath. In July, the playmaker signed a $ 1.5 million contract with the Japanese Higher League team for 2021, which aligns with his option to take a sabbatical as part of a four-year contract with rugby. from New Zealand.
The tournament kicks off on January 16, giving Barrett a month and a half to relax in quarantine and with the family before his first competitive race on Japanese soil.
That means he won’t play a game in New Zealand until next year’s international season.
Aside from a potentially riveting performance this weekend, Barrett will head to the land of the rising sun with a little work to do, by his own standards.
“I’m aiming for perfection, but I know it can’t be done, so I’m always working to get better every day,” he said.
“I am happy with what we are achieving at the beginning of the year with the Blues and excited about the potential we have there. With the All Blacks it has been great to have some games, closing the Bledisloe was huge and now we have a chance to win the Three Nations.
“Just enjoying each day as it comes.”
The All Blacks side to face the Pumas on Saturday will be named tomorrow.
