UPDATE 6:50 pm: Second death after Riverton Wallacetown Freeway accident
A woman seriously injured in an accident on Riverton Wallacetown Highway east
the afternoon has died.
The accident occurred on the Oreti river bridge at 1:30 p.m.
A man died at the scene and the woman was transported to Dunedin Hospital in
a critical condition.
Sadly, he passed away in hospital shortly thereafter.
The road remains closed between Cumnock Street and Taramoa Road.
Motorists are asked to follow the detours that are in place.
UPDATE 4:20 pm: Update: Serious accident, Riverton Wallacetown Freeway
A man died after the serious accident of two vehicles on the Oreti river bridge.
Another woman was reported to be in critical condition.
The road is expected to remain closed for some time while the Serious Accident Unit attends the scene.
Motorists should expect delays, take an alternate route, or delay travel through the area.
UPDATE 3:30 pm: SH99 Oreti River Bridge, just outside of Wallacetown, remains CLOSED with a detour in place via Lochiel Bridge Rd. Please continue to wait for DELAYS as the closure is expected to be in place for some time while investigations are conducted and cleaning.
Emergency services are at the scene of a serious two-vehicle accident on the Riverton Wallacetown Expressway at the Oreti River Bridge.
The police were called around 1:30 p.m.
Initial reports suggest there have been injuries.
The road is closed and there are detours.
