New Zealand striker Chris Wood scored Burnley’s first goal in a 2-1 win over Everton.
A superb goal from Chris Wood and a goal from season contender Dwight McNeil earned Burnley a 2-1 victory over Everton in an English Premier League northern derby.
Wood scored his sixth goal of the season in the 13th minute after taking a left corner kick from McNeil near the edge of Everton’s penalty area.
The All Whites forward hit a perfect shot from the right corner of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
McNeil’s goal in the 24th minute was even sweeter, with the 21-year-old forward fooling around Everton midfielder on the wrong foot, Allan, before sinking his shoulder and firing a lethal shot into the upper left corner, lo which gave England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford no. chance.

Wood now has 41 Premier League goals for Burnley in 128 appearances since joining the Lancashire club in 2017. It was his sixth goal in 24 games this season in a season interrupted by a hamstring injury.
It was just the second goal of the season for McNeil, a skilled wing player who was most notable for his assists, but said his teammates encouraged him to have a chance.
“The guys tell me to shoot more, because in training I did score some goals, and today it was worth it … you get self-confidence when the team around you thinks you can do things like that.”

McNeil said Burnley “came in today full of confidence” and “always felt comfortable” against sixth Everton.
The Clarets are now in 15th place, seven points above the relegation zone.
“We feel closer to safety, but it doesn’t guarantee us, so we go back after the international break and we go back,” McNeil said.

Burnley coach Sean Dyche said his team could have been even further ahead at halftime because of the quality of their attack.

The victory represented the first time that Burnley won both Liverpool away games, against Everton and Liverpool, in the same season.

West Bromwich Albion looked destined for relegation after losing 1-0 to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Luka Milivojevic grabbed Palace’s goal from the penalty spot.
