Police want to speak to those who witnessed the fatal Whangamoa accident

A rescue helicopter at the scene of a multi-car crash on the Blenheim side of the Whangamoa Saddle.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the fatal accident on State Highway 6 near Whangamoa on Sunday to submit information.

One person died in the accident and two other people suffered serious or serious injuries.

Tasmania District Road Safety Manager Senior Sgt Grant Andrews said there were four vehicles involved in the crash, which occurred around 3.35pm Sunday.

He said there is a “major investigation underway” involving the major accident unit, the criminal investigation branch (CIB) and the road surveillance team.

Anyone who saw the accident or passed through the scene of the accident is requested before emergency services contact Nelson Police.

Police are particularly interested in speaking with a man who was driving a white pickup truck and stopped to help remove debris from the road, as well as any motorists with cameras in their vehicles who may have recorded the scene.

Police are also interested in any sightings or information about a white Kia Optima 4-door sedan, with a black roof and driven by a woman, who was traveling from Nelson to Blenheim on SH 6 at the time of the accident.
