He said two fire trucks attended the fire, which was treated as a suspect.
A fire investigator would go to the scene later Sunday, Norris said.
On Sunday morning, a police tape surrounded the parking lot of the police station while a patrol car guarded the entrance.
Sitting in the parking lot was a police van, which had most of its front end damaged. Next to him was a police car, with the hood raised.
Canterbury Subway Commander Superintendent Lane Todd said in a statement Sunday morning that a police vehicle was found burning around 4 a.m. and that the fire damaged a police car next door.
“Both vehicles have suffered irreparable damage,” Todd said.
No one was injured during the fire and the police station was evacuated. Since then it has reopened.
Todd said police wanted to hear from anyone who saw or heard something suspicious in the vicinity of the police station.
“Consultations will include viewing CCTV footage and speaking with witnesses,” he said.
A scene guard remains in place.
