Two serious accidents in the Waikato region tonight have caused serious delays for motorists over the Easter holidays.
One person died while three others sustained moderate injuries following a car and truck accident in Kaihere, Hauraki.
A police spokesman said officers were called to State Highway 27 at 7.54 p.m.
The road is closed and traffic is diverted onto Torehape Rd and Kaihere Rd.
A serious accident has also closed the road between the SH1 and SH2 interchange and Koheroa Rd near Mangatāwhiri.
One person is in serious condition and the serious accident unit had been notified.
Police have urged motorists going on vacation tonight for Easter to “take it easy” after the two serious Waikato crashes.
“We urge motorists to be patient and not take unnecessary risks.”
There is a detour route and motorists are advised to allow additional time for their journey.
The spokesperson said police were called at 9.22pm.
Meanwhile, traffic is stagnant between Kopu and Whangamatā.
A person at the scene told Newstalk that ZB said they had not moved for 20 minutes.
