A police officer was stabbed in the arm while attending a family injury incident in North Canterbury.
It is understood that a teenager is now in custody.
Emergency services were called at Harewood Rd in Oxford, a 40-minute drive from Christchurch, shortly after 5pm.
The rural area police commander, Inspector Peter Cooper, said the police officer was in moderate condition after he was stabbed in the arm while attending a family injury incident.
Police were not looking for anyone else in connection with the stabbing.

A spokeswoman for St John said a patient was being transferred to Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries.
Neighbors said Things a family lived at the address with their teenage son.
They said the first they knew of the incident was when they saw police cars at the scene.
