A police cordon blocks the road at the scene of an unexplained death in Glen Innes.
The body of a woman has been found on a footbridge in the eastern Auckland suburb of Glen Innes.
Police have described the death as “inexplicable” and are investigating.
Detectives and uniformed personnel are still on the scene, on the catwalk that links Felton Mathew Ave to the train station and the Glen Innes shopping area.
A senior official has confirmed that the dead person is a woman and that she was found by the public early in the morning.
The walkway is cordoned off, but at least one police officer can be seen in white overalls, which is often worn during forensic investigations.
A police tent has also been set up in the bicycle and pedestrian lane that runs behind the light industrial buildings and a supermarket.
A Glen Innes local said Stuff He used the catwalk around 1.30am but saw no signs of trouble.
It says the area is well lit and is used as a useful shortcut.
“He is always busy”.
The man says that the area is sometimes used as a place to drink.
He was saddened to learn that someone had died.
“It’s just not on, why in our city, why?”
