The lines company was fixing the power pole that was damaged at Te Ore Ore Rd in Masterton on Wednesday morning as a result of the accident.
A police car crashed during a chase in Masterton early Wednesday morning.
Sergeant Major Jennifer Hansen said a police vehicle struck a power pole on Te Ore Ore Rd around 1 a.m.
“The two members of the police staff were shaken but unharmed,” he said.
The chase began when a police patrol tried to stop a black Ford Territory vehicle at high speed on High St at the southern end of the city, Hansen said.
The chase continued around Masterton for “some distance” and a second police car joined the chase. A short time later, one of the police cars crashed near the corner of Opaki Rd and Te Ore Ore Rd.

“The chase was abandoned by police shortly thereafter due to the offending driver’s driving,” Hansen said.
A witness said the cars were traveling at “enormous knot speeds” during the chase that lasted for several minutes.
Robert Scott, who lives on Wrigley St less than a mile from Te Ore Ore Rd, said he heard a series of bangs shortly after seeing the chase along State Highway 2 through the center of town.
“I could hear a little bit of screeching tires and sirens coming towards me and away and coming towards me.”
He hit the streets for a chance to “see some action.”
“The next thing I saw this car making a high knot speed down Chapel St (SH2)… heading towards the roundabout at the north end and I counted four police cars chasing it.
“Then another went off down Villa St, the siren sounded, in the same direction,” Scott said.
Police said there were two police vehicles involved in the chase and a third was used to place spikes on the road.
“Then I heard three strong blows one after another,” Scott said.
He said everything went quiet for a moment.
“I thought, this guy has crashed. Then I heard a siren come on again and he came back down Villa St in the direction of Lincoln Rd … with a police car chasing him.
“I thought to myself, it looks like the police had a little collision there.”
A driver on Villa St, who did not want to be named, said he had to drive his car to the curb to avoid being hit by the Ford that had swerved to his side of the road.
“I saw a car coming towards me… with a police car behind it.
“They headed straight for me and I had to go up the sidewalk to get out of the way.”
A short time later, he came across the police car that had crashed.
