The Victoria University of Wellington Student Association filed a police complaint after its online AGM was hacked.

The student association today released a statement saying unknown attendees took control of the screen sharing feature in Zoom.

They then shared racist, homophobic and graphic content.

Vuwsa said they were shocked, angry and disgusted.

“His rhetoric was deeply hurtful and hurtful, and it has no place in Vuwsa, at the university or anywhere else.”

About 120 people were on the Zoom call. Vuwsa said it was an isolated incident after holding several online meetings without any problems.

The association has apologized “deeply” to the communities that were attacked and to those who were present at the Zoom meeting.

“Vuwsa is a safe space for everyone. This means that we have absolutely zero tolerance for this type of behavior. We think it is absolutely abhorrent.”

The police confirmed that they received the complaint and that they are carrying out the first inquiries.

Vuwsa said it was her responsibility to ensure that the spaces and events she facilitates are safe.

“What happened today is not in line with any of our values, and we are currently investigating our security protocols to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
