The man appeared in Christchurch District Court on Thursday.
A man has been accused of raping four women in three years.
Police are concerned that the alleged serial rapist, whose name is withheld, may have attacked other women.
The 35-year-old is believed to have lived in Auckland and Christchurch since arriving in New Zealand about a decade ago.
He met several of the complainants at nightclubs in downtown Christchurch.
The man first appeared in Christchurch District Court in late February on charges of raping a woman.
Since then, the police have accused him of raping three other women.
The man denied the allegations and was granted provisional name removal during a brief court hearing Thursday morning.
He was in preventive detention until May 6.
According to court documents, the police allege that the man committed the crime between the end of October 2018 and 2021.
Detective Sergeant Major Nicola Reeves said police had spoken with numerous people as part of their investigation.
“We are now asking anyone else who may have information or concerns that has not yet come forward to contact us,” Reeves said.
“We want to assure those who come forward that the information they provide will be treated with sensitivity. We believe this man acted alone and is not a risk to the public at this time. “
Anyone with information should contact the police by calling 105 and quoting file number 210221/7752.
