Last month, the group asked the prime minister to carry out an independent review of the police’s decision not to pursue the prosecution.

One hundred and fifteen people died when the building collapsed during the 2011 earthquake.

The group says the government has helped those affected by other tragedies, but is not doing the same to CTV families.

The Prime Minister’s office told 1 NEWS today that Jacinda Ardern forwarded Professor Alkaisi’s letter to the Attorney General for a response, given Crown Law’s prior involvement in the case.

“The police decision not to prosecute has been reviewed by the Independent Police Complaints Authority (IPCA), which confirmed the decision,” says a spokesman for the prime minister.

“The criminal justice process must be kept free from political interference, so it would be inappropriate for the Prime Minister to comment on the IPCA’s response.

“The matter has also been the subject of other reviews, including the Royal Investigation Commission.

“For these reasons, the Government will not appoint retired judges to review the case.”
