One person was “extremely traumatized” after being abducted in Wellington, police said. (File photo)
One person was kidnapped in Wellington but managed to escape the incident physically unscathed.
Detective Sergeant Stephen Wescott said police were investigating the incident and looking for witnesses who saw two vehicles driving erratically in the city’s eastern suburbs on Aug. 25.
The vehicles involved were described as a dark-colored BMW hatchback, closely followed by a dark-colored mid-to-large-size sedan or hatchback.
Between 8.30 p.m. and 8.45 p.m. that day, a Tuesday, police said the vehicles traveled from Shelly Bay Rd to Miramar Ave, then to Cobham Dr, Troy St, Rongotai Rd, Evans Bay Pde, KFC Kilbirnie and Onepu Rd. .

On Onepu Rd, the victim, who was detained in one of the vehicles, managed to escape.
“While the victim was not physically harmed, the incident was extremely traumatic for them and they have been provided ongoing support,” Wescott said.
The police believed that this was an isolated incident and that there was no ongoing risk to the community.
