An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with several firearm incidents in a South Auckland community.

A police spokesman said a car was stopped shortly before 10:30 a.m. this morning in Flat Bush, and several shotgun shells were found during a search.

The man has been charged with illegal possession of ammunition and is due to appear in Manukau District Court on Wednesday.

Another man in the car was also arrested for unrelated matters and would also appear in court tomorrow, the spokesman said.

Since last Friday, there have been six shooting incidents in Ōtara, Police Inspector Wendy Spiller said.

On Friday at 5 pm, the police attended four shootings, all at different locations around Ōtara.

The next day, police attended two more shootings on Bairds Rd and Preston Rd, at 2.24pm.

A high level of police presence in Ōtara would continue, police said, and anyone with information about the shootings or other gang-related activity should contact the police at 105 and quote file number 201121/6920 or Crimestoppers anonymously. at 0800 555111.
