There have been a series of shootings in the southern Auckland suburb of Ōtara.
A man has been arrested in connection with a series of shootings in Ōtara, south of Auckland.
The 24-year-old was charged after three weapons, ammunition and “a quantity of explosives” were found in a Manurewa home, police said.
He will appear in Manukau District Court Thursday, charged with firing a firearm with reckless disregard for the safety of others, illegal possession of prohibited weapons, ammunition and explosives.
According to court documents, he was allegedly in possession of three semi-automatic weapons, including an AK47.
He is also accused of possessing a detonating cord and a gel stick of explosive power.
The community has been nervous after six shootings in the suburb for a few days.
The man is the second to be arrested for the incidents. An 18-year-old was arrested on November 24 and charged with illegal possession of ammunition.
Detective Inspector Chris Barry said more arrests are anticipated.
“The police would like to assure the public that there is zero tolerance for gun violence in our community,” he said.
“The police continue to maintain a high level of presence in Ōtara.”
MORE TO COME.
