A commuter train in Wairarapa collided with a car.
One person died after a commuter train collided with a car near Featherston in Wairapapa.
Emergency services are at the scene of the accident on Western Lake Rd, at Speedy’s Crossing.
Police have confirmed that the sole occupant of the car died at the scene.
The detours remain in place and motorists are asked to avoid the area, while rail services in Wairarapa were delayed and replaced by buses.

Police received reports of a “serious accident” around 2 pm, police said in a statement. Police remain at the scene investigating.
Passenger Sally McLennan was sitting on the opposite side of the train from where the collision occurred.
“At the time I was trying not to hit the seat in front of me,” he said.
McLennan said passengers were walking down the tracks to board buses at the cemetery.
The detours are in place and the police asked motorists to avoid the area.
Metlink said the 12.45pm and 4.25pm Wairarapa rail service from Wellington to Masterton has been replaced by a bus, as well as the 3.38pm services from Masterton to Wellington. Travelers should expect delays.
Powerco’s website said there was no power at 183 properties in the Western Lake suburb of Featherston. The disruption was believed to be related to the collision.
A woman was killed when her car was hit by a train at Speedy’s Crossing in 2007.
Joanne Christina Boomert, 50, of Masterton, was killed when her car was hit by a commuter train carrying 190 passengers, bound for Wellington.
