One person died after a car accident in rural North Canterbury.
Emergency services were called for the accident on Tram Rd in West Eyreton near Oxford around 11.10pm on Wednesday.
A police spokeswoman said the driver of the vehicle died at the scene.
The police Serious Accident Unit is investigating the circumstances of the accident, he said.

New Zealand Fire and Emergency spokesperson Mau Barbara said two teams from Rangiora and Cust attended.
No one was trapped in the vehicle, so the teams helped police and St. John, he said.
This most recent accident follows another fatal hit in the north Christchurch suburb of Belfast.
Emergency services were called into a collision between a truck and a car on Main North Rd, near the intersection of Richill St, around 11:10 a.m. Wednesday.
Traffic was diverted for more than four hours as the major accident unit surveyed the scene. The truck involved belonged to JCL Asphalt, which declined to comment when contacted by Things On Wednesday.
At least 57 other people have died on New Zealand’s roads so far this year, seven of them hailing from the Canterbury region, according to road death statistics from the Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.
