One Killed in Two-Car Crash North of Whangarei

A two-car collision in Northland left one person dead and five injured.

Of those injured in the accident on State Highway 1 between Whangarei and Hikurangi this afternoon, one is critical, two are seriously injured, and the other two sustained moderate injuries.

The Hikurangi Highway is expected to be closed for several hours.

Two people also remain in critical condition after different incidents on the road elsewhere today.

A pedestrian has life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car in central Auckland this morning.

Police say emergency services were called to Victoria St West around 2 a.m.

The person was taken by ambulance to hospital with serious injuries.

An investigation into the circumstances of the accident is underway.

Meanwhile, a man was flown to the hospital in critical condition after being hit by a car in Waikato.

State Highway 25 was closed in Hikuai, about 40 kilometers north of Waihi.

Police say the incident occurred around 6:50 am, just south of the Tairua River.

The detours were established on State Highway 25A south of the scene.

The first two vehicles collided in a serious accident on State Highway 6 near Queenstown.

Police were alerted to the accident shortly before 1 in the afternoon. They said two people were injured.

The road was blocked in Gibbston and motorists were asked to avoid the area.

Crown Range Road, between Queenstown and Wanaka, is completely blocked after a two-vehicle collision.

The accident happened around 2:40 pm and a person is trapped in a vehicle.
