NZTA expects busier roads due to kiwifruit holiday at home

The Transport Agency expects more traffic jams on the roads than usual this summer, because more New Zealanders are on vacation here than abroad.

He says people should spend more time and stay calm if they run into delays.

Wellington Transport Systems manager Mark Owen says people can check the New Zealand Transport Agency – Waka Kotahi website for forecasts of the busiest days, times and routes.

He encouraged people to plan ahead and drive according to conditions.

AA said that on Sunday and Monday, the worst places for tourists leaving Auckland and Wellington were the Kapiti coast, the Puhoi to Warkworth road and the Manukau to Drury road.

“The best advice we can give motorists is to plan ahead and, if possible, avoid driving through these hotspots between 10 am and 4 pm for the next week.

“Not everyone has that kind of flexibility, but if you can adjust your trip, it can save you and your family a lot of pain.”
