NZ Drug Foundation Criticizes New Report on Harm Caused by Cannabis Legalization

“When cannabis is legalized, things get a lot worse, there is an increase in the sale and use of cannabis, an increase among young people, mental health outcomes, and the list goes on,” Ironside said.

But the New Zealand Drug Foundation, which is campaigning for Kiwis to vote “Yes,” said the public should trust independent information.

“The public deserves all the facts and this report is full of misinformation and data selection,” said spokesman Ross Bell.

Massey University associate professor Chris Wilkins agreed that the report has a clear agenda, but thinks the data is useful.

Professor Wilkins advised voters to consult the Prime Minister’s Scientific Advisor’s report on the legalization of cannabis and the Royal Society’s report on the health harms of cannabis.

“A good approach is to look at the referendum website, look at the information on both sides and think about the things that you value.”

With voting day just around the corner, the value of kiwis will soon become clear.
