NRL shock when Eels’ Michaels Jennings tests positive for banned drugs before semifinal

Parramatta has been shaken before his semi-final against South Sydney with Michael Jennings retired for testing positive for performance enhancing substances.

Just hours before kickoff, Jennings was provisionally suspended Saturday morning by the NRL after they were informed that he tested positive last month.

The NRL said the 32-year-old had tested positive for Ligandrol and Ibutamoren, both banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

He leaves the career of veteran Eel and the former center of NSW and Kangaroos in jeopardy as he tries to clear his name.

“Michael Jennings has been removed from today’s game and continued training and playing responsibilities while the process is ongoing, which per policy includes the opportunity to test his B sample,” the Eels said in a statement.

The news comes at the worst possible time for the Eels, who no longer have wingers Blake Ferguson and Maika Sivo for Saturday night’s semi-final.
